Q How do I copy my PagePlus dictionary?

A Find the appropriate folder and copy from there. The user dictionary for PP11 is in %AppData%\Serif\PagePlus\11.0\Languages\SsceUser.tlx and the user dictionary for PPX2 is in %AppData%\Serif\PagePlus\12.0\Languages\SsceUser.tlx. The user dictionary files for PP10 (User??.tlx) are in the %AppData%\Serif\PagePlus\10.0\Support DLLs folder: substitute the appropriate version number for earlier versions.

Q How do I make a link open in a new window or tab?

A You need to use a hyperlink to 'An Internet page' even if you are linking to a page in your site. This allows you to add a target attribute; e.g.

  http://www.serif.com" target="_blank

instead of the usual

  http://www.serif.com

Don't be tempted to add opening and closing quotes: PP will add them (along with some other stuff) when it creates the link.

Q How do I install new palettes for use in PagePlus 10 or later?

A Follow the instructions for installing new brushes in DrawPlus 8, but put your palette files in the PagePlus\10.0\Palettes folder (or PagePlus\11.0\Palettes etc.) instead of the DrawPlus\8.0\Brushes folder.

Q How do I copy my WebPlus dictionary?

A Find the appropriate folder and copy from there. The user dictionary for WP10 is in %AppData%\Serif\WebPlus\10.0\Languages\SsceUser.tlx. The user dictionary files for WP9 (User??.tlx) are in in the %AppData%\Serif\WebPlus\9.0\Support DLLs folder: substitute the appropriate version number for earlier versions.

Q How do I make a link open in a new window or tab?

A Recent versions of WebPlus have a built-in facility for this, but you can do it in older versions by following the instructions in the PagePlus section above.

Q If I put a 'Top' button on the Master page and anchor it to an object at the top of the page, it links to the top of the home page instead of the top of the current page. How do I make this work without putting an anchor on every single page?

A Instead of using an anchor, put a hyperlink to 'An Internet page' on the Master page and put #top in place of the http:// which appears by default in the URL box.

Q How do I install new palettes for use in WebPlus 10?

A Follow the instructions for installing new brushes in DrawPlus 8, but put your palette files in the WebPlus\10.0\Palettes folder instead of the DrawPlus\8.0\Brushes folder.

Q How do I apply a curve to a line of objects?

A Follow these steps:

1. Type a row of Xs, appropriately spaced to mark the positions of your objects.

2. Apply your choice of curve from the Curve Text flyout.

3. Position your objects below and to the right of the text, and ungroup them.

4. Select the text and convert to curves.

5. Select an object and its corresponding X, and use Align Top Left to move the object to its intended position.

6. Repeat step 5 for the remaining objects.

7. Delete the Xs.

Q How do I install new brushes for use in DrawPlus 8?

A Follow these steps:

1. Go to 'Start > Run...' and enter

  %ProgramFiles%\Serif\DrawPlus\8.0\Brushes

(and click 'OK').

2. Go to the folder containing the new brushes and copy it to the above 'Brushes' folder.

3. To make the new category of brushes available for use, launch DP8 with the Ctrl key held down.

Note that step 3 will reset all your user settings, so you need to be sure you really want to do this. If you put the new brushes in the %AppData%\Serif\DrawPlus\8.0\Brushes folder instead, the new category of brushes will be immediately available for use the next time you launch DP8 (without the need to reset your user settings) but if you subsequently launch DP8 with the Ctrl key held down, the %AppData% folder will be cleared out and the new category will no longer be available. You can have the best of both worlds by copying the folder into both the %ProgramFiles% 'Brushes' folder and the %AppData% 'Brushes' folder: the new category will be immediately available for use without your having to reset your user settings, and if you subsequently launch DP8 with the Ctrl key held down, the new category will still be available.

Q How do I install new palettes for use in DrawPlus 8?

A Follow the instructions for installing new brushes, but put your palette files in the DrawPlus\8.0\Palettes folder instead of the DrawPlus\8.0\Brushes folder.

PhotoPlus

Q How do I to crop to a fixed aspect ratio if my version of PhotoPlus doesn’t have an option to do this?

A Follow these steps:

1. Create a new empty layer.

2. Drag out a rectangular selection of the correct proportions (e.g. 150×100).

3. Choose the Deform tool.

4. Shift-drag on a corner handle to adjust the size of the selection outline.

5. Crop to Selection.

At step 4, holding down the Shift key while dragging maintains the proportions of the selection outline; because you're working on an empty layer, your original image isn't deformed.

Q How do I straighten converging verticals in tall buildings?

A If necessary, start by straightening the horizontals; in PhotoPlus 11 the Straighten adjustment in the QuickFix Studio provides an easy means of doing this. You can then straighten the verticals with the Deform tool by holding down Ctrl+Shift+Alt and dragging one of the top corners horizontally outwards.
